Waldorf Red Cake
Ingredients:

- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 ounces red food coloring
- 2-1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 2-1/2 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine
Directions:
- Cream shortening, add sugar, eggs and beat well. Add food coloring and mix well.
- Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Add vanilla and vinegar; beat well.
- Pour into 3 greased and floured 8-inch cake pans or 2 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake at 350 degrees.
- Topping: Stir flour and milk over medium heat until smooth and thick. Cool.
- Cream together sugar and margarine. Add cooled flour mixture and beat about 15 minutes or until it looks like whipped cream.
