Shauna Niequist Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Rosemary
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • Red  Wine
  • 1 Can Tomato Paste
  • 2 Cans Crushed Tomatoes
  • Spicy Pork Sausage Meatballs or Cannelloni Beans

  1. We start with onions, carrots, celery, and garlic in a little bit of olive oil. Then fennel seeds, oregano, basil, rosemary, crushed red pepper flakes. A little red wine. Salt and pepper. One can of tomato paste and two cans of crushed tomatoes. 
  2. Then low heat for a really long time, long enough for the acidity of the tomatoes to cook out. 
  3. I split the sauce into two pots and add spicy pork sausage meatballs to one and cannelloni beans to the other, because the boys love sausages and I like to have a meatless option.
